What your IP does and does not reveal
Your public IP is the address your router presents to the internet. Every device in your home or office usually shares it, which is why it identifies a connection rather than a person. Your internet provider knows which subscriber held it at a given moment, but a website only sees the address itself.
It gives a rough location, often only the city or the provider's exchange, and that guess is frequently wrong by a long way. A VPN replaces it with the address of the VPN server, which is the whole point of using one.
Most connections in Lebanon use a dynamic address that changes when the router restarts. If you need to reach your office, your cameras or a server from outside reliably, you want a static IP or a dynamic DNS hostname, which is something we set up regularly.
